So, recently, we decided to go to the Glyderau range yet again. This time, however, we attempted Y Garn. This involved going up Devil's Kitchen and instead of turning left to Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach we turned right past the lake. This trip was interesting. We knew what to expect after the last time, however, we didn't expect to be walking through clouds. I say interesting, but it was most certainly quite an experience to have been through, one I am very glad to have been through.

So after the initial struggle up through Devil's Kitchen, we noticed we couldn't quite see the peak where we were headed to. Not because it was so far away, but because it was covered in clouds. Not entirely sure why this came as such a surprise due to our view at the beginning being just clouds with some land trying to break through. Walking up Y Garn entailed two footpaths, one which was in the middle of the incline and the other which was right on the edge. Guess which one we chose.... Yes that's right, the one by the edge (the brother regretted this shortly after!). It was a steady incline to Y Garn with beautiful views (and a massive drop!). At this point there was still some visibility across the edge looking over across the lakes. We reached the summit, and at this point we could see about 20ft in front of us.... unsure of where the edges were, that was quite exhilarating. Unfortunately, due to the clouds we couldn't see the view that could have been there but from the views on the travels up it would have been beautiful.

The descent....
If you read my previous post
'Mountain Madness Pt Two' you will be aware that last time we conquered this journey the descent was horrific. Well, this one was worse. Of course it is to be expected that the terrain would be similar due to both the peaks being in the same mountain range. However, it was pretty much like a slip n slide. Not to mention the fact that to the right there was just a massive drop covered by clouds! Coming down the initial scree part we came across this beautiful Springer Spaniel who wanted to play fetch with one of the stones! The dog was absolutely loving it (can't say the same about those walking down, however).

Getting past the scree and clouds (after what felt like a long time) made the descent so much easier. After this stage we walked across grass, marsh and then finally made it to the zig zag steps! I would 10/10 recommend this as a wonderful family fun day out... if you're up for it. Next time I think we're going to choose somewhere which has less scree.... hopefully!
